DISTANT DANCEFLOORS | COVID-19 AND THE ELECTRONIC MUSIC INDUSTRY

New documentary from Pioneer DJ follows COVID-19’s impact on the electronic music industry.

Today, Pioneer DJ releases DISTANT DANCEFLOORS exploring the global impact of COVID-19 on the electronic music scene. As the world ventures into the ‘new normal’, Pioneer DJ presents a 360° view of the economical, psychological and social impact COVID-19 has had on global clubbing culture.

Overnight, the music was made to stop; venues were forced to close, festivals and live events cancelled, and thousands of livelihoods put in jeopardy. DISTANT DANCEFLOORS goes back to the very beginning when the virus took hold; the first warnings, global realisation and the resulting lockdown.

Sharing their reflections of the last six months the film features commentary from international DJs such as Blond:ish, Eats Everything, Honey Dijon, Luciano and Rebuke as well as key cultural figures including Kevin Watson, Author of the International Music Summit Business Report & Paul Reed the Association of Festivals, talent managers and fans. Analyzing the combined experience of those interviewed, DISTANT DANCEFLOORS explores how the industry first adapted and has begun to reconstruct itself.
